Do you play an instrument and have bigband/orchestra experience or do you dance?

We rehearse every Wednesday from 18:00 in musikrummet and tidningsrummet in the student union building Nymble, Drottning Kristinas väg 15. We welcome new members on an ongoing basis. More information below.

Orchestra

A tiger-striped, full-scale, jazz-playing student orchestra. And Stockholm’s oldest!

Our orchestra consists of the following instruments:

  • Flutes – Lätt blåst
  • Clarinets – Fransoserna
  • Alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones – Saxofonerna
  • Trumpet – Starka brasset
  • Horns and trombone – Gravade brasset
  • Drums, bass (including tuba), and banjo – Quômpet

We are actively looking for new members in some or all of our sections. You are more than welcome to stop by a Wednesday rehearsal in musikrummet in Nymble, the student union building, to try out playing with us!

If you do not have access to an instrument, there may be a possibility of borrowing an instrument from PQ (not all instruments are available).

Ballet

Baletten Paletten is a showdance group that mostly dances traditionally choreographed jazz to the orchestra’s music.

Baletten rehearses on Wednesdays at the same time as the orchestra, in tidningsrummet in Nymble, the student union building.

Improvised music

To quench our members’ unending desire to play, we also have jam rehearsals. Here we play in smaller groups, which give us more musical freedom.

In the jam group you will develop your musical ability and learn new musical skills. If you are interested in a more relaxed and improvised setting, you are welcome to join a jam rehearsal.

Please contact the jam responsible for further information about jams.

Music

A treasure trove of music.

PQ plays mostly self-arranged or self-composed pieces which, throughout the years, have been released as several albums. One of the earliest records, World of Brass, was released in 1957.

Repertoire

Our music is for the most part Dixieland jazz, with some touches of more modern jazz. We have also played more classical and old Swedish music.

A lot of this lovely music can be found on Spotify and YouTube Music. Why not listen to Idomin or Bye Bye Blackbird?

More of our music is found on the page about our history.
